to the artists, designers and craftspeople who think I call their work kitsch... this is NOT the case, it refers to my own work

Kazys Venclovas' pine tree

I thought this would be the right day to publish pictures of The Pine Tree by Lithuanian artist Kazys Venclovas.  I only wish I could have taken these pictures in winter.

impressive in size and in very good condition as it stands here since 1998 (photos taken in 2010)

my favourite combination of materials; wood, metal and stone

and so lucky to see it in the late afternoon autumn sun

would love this in the garden right now

Camiel Van Breedam - pure and simple

Looking for inspiration for future work with wood I rediscover the works of one of my favourite artists.

delicate sculptures made from reclaimed pine wood slaths used to plaster ceilings and walls in old houses
breathtaking, my heart skips a beat every time a look at them

Charles Ross - solar burns

Winter solstice, perfect day to show artwork created by the sun (or the absence of it).  Portraits of sunlight drawn by the sun itself.

Charles Ross - Sunlight Convergence / Solar Burns

Sculptor, painter and photographer Charles Ross uses sunlight involving time and planetary motion.

Through a lens the sunlight burns a path across a wooden plank.
Clear days create a broad smoke flare, passing clouds leave unburned interruptions, overcast days produce blank boards.

Every day from March 20, 1992 and March 20 1993.
365 boards show the action of the sun during a whole year.

The position of the earth during the seasons will influence the curve of the burn.  Curving during winter and summer, straightening during spring and autumn.
Fascinating.

cOLOrès in the bosco - crazy crochet

Yesterday I picked up a knitting project I started and abandonned over a year ago.  Not happy where it was leading to I decided to change the final goal... not revealing anything yet, it will take a long time to get there.

Looking to make a post related to my current occupation I found these pictures taken during last summer (2011).

My apologies for the poor quality of the pictures, glass cases and lighting made it too difficult for my tiny camera.
